ABOUT RENAISSANCE CHEF
Renaissance Chef Catering Company was established in 2005 in the charming city Frederick, MD not far from the small town of Damascus where Jake was born and raised (and also met his wife, Erin in high school). Jake first began the first few years of his culinary career as a young man working his way through multiple positions, from Prep & Line Cook, Restaurant Server & Kitchen Supervisor, to Restaurant Manager at various restaurants differing in styles & cuisines. It didn’t take long for this young talent to be recognized and promoted into leadership roles within the Food & Beverage community regardless of the location. Jake officially made the decision to take his culinary passion to a Professional career when he enrolled in one of the area’s best culinary schools, Baltimore International Culinary College. Upon graduating with honors in 1997, Jake took the opportunity to travel to Virginia County, Ireland for 3 months with his school to study European Cooking.
He then spent the next several years practicing his craft and cultivating his culinary prowess across the east coast and beyond even spending two years on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands as the Food and Beverage Director of Carambola Beach Resort & Hotel. He refined his knowledge of the culinary world through various positions including Fine Dining Service, Banquet Chef for Marriott Resort in Marco Island, FL, Restaurant Manager of a National Restaurant Chain, and even spending time as Executive Chef aboard the decommissioned aircraft carrier “USS Yorktown” in Charleston, SC for a local catering company.
Moving back to the area to settle down and start a family with his wife Erin, they open Renaissance Chef Catering Company in 2005 and now spend most of their time outside of the RC kitchen running after their two amazing boys, Kyran and Charlie. Since it first opened, Renaissance Chef Catering Company has evolved into one of Frederick’s most successful and respected caterers. Starting the company with only a handful of employees, Jake has grown his team (our RC Family) to include some of the most talented, hard-working & fun individuals in Frederick who are truly passionate about what they do, and prove it with the many accomplishments, recognitions and contributions to the community every year.
Owner & Executive Chef Jake Sgueo’s 20 plus years of extraordinary culinary experience, his tireless hard-work ethic, and his ability to lead & manage his team in this fast-paced environment with a brilliant sense of humor is the heart of everything that is Renaissance Chef Catering Company.
